Women’s Wellness Walk is dedicated to educating and empowering women to make good choices with their health and nutrition and creating a healthy balance for their life. Over 115 women participated this year. We encouraged attendees to relax and share the day with family and friends. The day was filled with laughter, education, inspiration, and most of all fun.

The event begins and ends at Familiar Grounds where health-based exhibitors lined the entire coffee shop to interact with guests.  Attendees chose two activities to participate in and they walked between area businesses and organizations to both classes. Classes offered this year are below.

  1. Me First, a Time to Reflect & Regroup – Location: 106 W. North Water St. MK Flooring building, class done by Thedacare – Things you should know about your Annual Physical and routine care! Come learn what is new regarding recommended health maintenance to ensure that you can live your best life. Tina Bettin will share the important changes that you need to know to stay on top of your health and well-being.
  2. Dream Pillow – Location: 303 W. North Water St. USW Local 2-1970 , class done by Irish acres farm stay – Say YES! and join in the Y.ou E.mpower S.pirit DREAM PILLOW craft session. Learn about the history and meaning of a dream pillow. Dream pillows are the key to the limitless universe of dreams. They induce relaxation and melt away the day’s nervous tension. Create your own personalized small muslin sachet filled with a blend of organic aromatic herbs.
  3. Chalk Couture With Robin – Location: 112 W. Wolf River Ave., Robin’s Nest Learning Center, LLC – Are you interested in making some beautiful crafts to decorate your home for a special occasion, or give to someone special as a gift? If you’re not sure where to start, this is the class for you. Create a canvas project with Robin a designer with Chalk Couture. You don’t have to be artistic, just be open-minded to trying something new.
  4. Make Some Macramé – Location: 509 W. North Water Street Events Everlasting -Macramé is a form of textile produced using knotting techniques. The primary knots of macrame’ are the square and forms of “hitching” various combinations of half hitches. Create something fun and learn a new skill while relaxing with your friends.
  5. Purposeful Potting– Location: 609 N. Shawano St Bees & Blossoms Farm – Growing flowers in pots will not only brighten up your backyard but they will also brighten your mood. Check out this demonstration class at a greenhouse and learn from the expert gardener, Liz who will give you tips to liven up your outdoor space and give you potting tips you can use at home.
  6. Beginner Yoga & Self Care – Location: 213 W. North Water St. Mindful Movements Yoga Studio – Yoga is a practice that connects the body, breath and mind. It uses physical postures, breathing exercise and meditation to improve overall health. Join Mindy at her brand new yoga studio downtown for this beginner yoga and self care class. Yoga is a great way to improve your overall health and well being.

Ticket price includes: a welcome bag, light breakfast with mimosa, live music, exhibitors, choice of 2 activities, lunch, fashion show and door prizes! Contact the Chamber about purchasing tickets for Mother’s Day or for your group of friends and family.

ThedaCare

Donate Life Month – Pause to Give Life Observance ThedaCare New London and Waupaca will join organizations across the nation to raise our Donate Life flag and Pause to Give Life.
This annual event honors organ and tissue donors and encourages others to join the donor registry.
Flags are raised at a specific time to recognize that 1 organ donor can save up to 8 lives.
The flag raising is followed by a 100 second moment of silence dedicated to the more than 100,000 patients who are still waiting to receive a lifesaving gift.

Join us for a 60 minute slow flow yoga class great for participants of all ages and fitness levels. Certified yoga instructor and strength coach Cassie Kottke, will lead participants though a series of poses to stretch, and strengthen all of the muscles of the body. Cassie will also guide you through proper breathing techniques along with a short meditation at the end of class. Please bring your own yoga mat."

April brings new life after the long winter. Amphibians and reptiles are on the move, plants are growing and the woods are bursting with places to explore. A naturalist-led hike will explore the nature center property as it comes alive in early spring. Come dressed for the weather as April weather can be unpredictable.

Join Naturalist Mike Hibbard April 27th at 1p.m. to build a bug box with to temporarily hold butterflies and other insects for study. The box measures 5 ½” wide x 7” high x 8” long. All instructions and materials are provided. Some basic hand tools will be needed, but extras will be provided if you don’t have them. A tool list will be provided upon registration. After the boxes are completed, participants will have a chance to try them out as we go on a “catch and release” bug safari to see which insects are out and about. The workshop is recommended for children ages 10+. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Spring Bird Hikes
Saturdays May 5, 11, 18, and 25, 2024 at 7 AM
Spring is one of the most exciting seasons for birding! Come along for a causal, guided hike with a naturalist during the peak of the spring migration. Whether you are a beginner or expert level birder, all are welcome to attend one or any number of the offered hikes. Come dressed for the weather and wear good hiking shoes. Bring your own binoculars or borrow a pair from the nature center.
