The Bill of Rights of the U.S. Constitution includes in the 5th Amendment that phrase “…nor shall private property be taken for public use without just compensation.” The U.S. Supreme Court has also applied this to “Regulatory Takings” where citizens rights to use your property as intended is eroded by regulations.
