City of New London – Open House & Public Comment for Avangrid Land Purchase Propsal

Avangrid, an energy company, has approached the City of New London to purchase land for the installation of an electric substation and maintenance facility in the city’s Northeast Business Park. This project is tied to a proposed 150-megawatt solar installation in the Town of Maple Creek, located approximately 1.8 miles north of New London. Avangrid’s proposal would connect their solar panels with electric transmission lines through the city’s industrial park to an American Transmission Company (ATC) electric substation currently located on the west side of the industrial park.

Avangrid will hold a public open house on Monday, June 16, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to provide information and answer questions about the proposed solar project. The meeting will be held at the Senior Center inside the Washington Center at 600 W. Washington St., New London WI (enter the building through the southern entrance from the parking lot located off Dickinson Street).

Following the open house, on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 the New London Economic Development Committee will hold a public hearing to allow for community feedback on the proposal. The hearing will take place in the Council Chambers at the New London Municipal Building (215 N. Shawano Street, New London WI), beginning at 5:15 p.m.
