Monday Morning Makeover

A Heartfelt Thank You to New London High School Students!

On Friday, December 6th, Brad Hanson, owner of Hucklberry Acres Campground, stopped by New London High School with a special Milwaukee tools package. This gift was a heartfelt thank you and a way to honor the incredible work of the students in the building department.

Under the guidance of shop teacher Joseph Gruentzel, these talented students worked alongside local contractors to construct two stunning 396-square-foot cabins for Hucklberry Acres. Their skill and dedication were evident in every detail, and their hard work has become a lasting part of the campground.

Not stopping there, the students also built 10 picnic tables this fall, further enhancing the campground for families and visitors to enjoy.

To the students and staff of New London High School, we want you to know how much your efforts mean to us. You’ve left an unforgettable mark on Hucklberry Acres, and your work truly reflects your talent, teamwork, and community spirit.

Fish: The Aquatic Hunters

If you have a pond on your property, adding fish goes a long way to keeping mosquito populations down. Mosquitoes lay their eggs in water. As the eggs hatch and begin to grow, fish gobble down the larvae.

One fish, called the mosquito fish (the Gambusia affinis), is especially good at destroying mosquito populations. Here are other fish that prey on mosquito larvae:

Goldfish

Guppies

Bass

Bluegill

Catfish

By adding these fish to ponds and other bodies, you can naturally reduce the mosquito larvae.

We are excited to share that two of our DECA officers at NLHS, Allyson Recla and Kaia Amaral, have been collaborating with a local business owner, Kelly Bubolz of KB Training Connections. Together, they are working to raise awareness about burnout and the valuable services and insights Ms. Bubolz provides.
